Norah's Dedication

A few weeks ago we had Norah dedicated at our church. It was a wonderful service. There were about 8 other families dedicating their new babies also. We love going to Highview where there are so many families just like ours. There are lots of kids for our kids to grow up with. We are so blessed.

Potty Training

Nathan is potty-trained!!!
It is quite a process potty training a toddler. In late August, Nathan moved up to the next classroom at school. In there, they work on potty training and independence skills. We figured since he was doing it at school we should do it at home as well. Labor Day weekend was our potty-training blitz. We knew we would be home for 5-6 days with very few outside commitments.
Day one started out with Nathan excited to wear big boy underwear and really excited to drink chocolate milk and juice for breakfast (lots of liquids = lots of potty opportunities). We went potty every hour with moderate success. About 3 hours into the process he had a big accident. I think then it sunk in. He was quite upset and didn't want to pee in his underwear after that. I can't say it was smooth sailing after that, but he was asking to go potty and was doing great.
As I said before, potty training is a process. There are times Nathan will go for days without a single accident then all of a sudden he will have 3 or 4 accidents in one day.
Overall we are very proud of our big boy for mastering the potty. I can't believe my little baby boy has achieved another milestone.

Norah 2 months

Norah is growing like a weed. She had her 2 month well-baby check-up today. The doctor said she is doing great and looks beautiful (we could have told him that). She is right on target for weight and height at 9# 14.5 oz (25%) and 21.5 in (25%). Norah sleeps 8-9 hours each night and is eating at the top of the scale. The doctor did have one minor concern, which was a concern of ours as well. She is developing Plagiocephaly, which is a fancy term for a flat head. This is very common in babies now since parents are told to put their babies to sleep on their backs to reduce the risk of SIDS. Norah favors her right side when she is on her back so she has developed a flat spot on the right back of her head. The doctor also said her neck muscles are asymmetrical which is adding to the problem. We are going to have her evaluated by a physical therapist and will be working with her at home to correct the problem. Most of the therapy is repositioning her head when she is laying on her back and doing more tummy time when she is awake. Hopefully these treatments will correct the condition and she will not have to wear a helmet, which would be the next step.
